PARISH LIBRARY FUNDRAISER & TALK FROM IGNATIUS PRESS - Mark Brumley, president of Ignatius Press, is the primary English-language publisher of the works of Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI.

On Friday, June 13th in the Narthex, he will be speaking on the Pope and his hopes for the papacy.

The event will begin at 5:30 pm with a light buffet dinner for those reserving a spot and paying $25 (checks payable to St. Brendan Parish).

The talk commences at 7 pm and will be followed with a question and answer session for a free will donation.

ADORATION - First Friday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin on Friday, June 6, following the morning Mass at 8:30 am and will close on Saturday, June 7, with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and Mass at 8:30 am. On Friday evening at 7:00 pm, there is a children’s prayer time, with Rosary, Scripture and hymns. Families with small children welcome.

INFANT BAPTISM PREPARATION AND SUMMER SCHEDULE - Baptism Sessions (Parents need to attend sessions in preparation for their child’s baptism) Please contact the parish office for the next date.

Celebrations of the Sacrament of Baptism: June 14 and 15; July 12 & 13. For more information contact Jennie Caldwell in the parish office.

Global Climate Change: A Christian’s Response - April 24, 2008—7:00 pm in the Narthex. Join us for a video and discussion on Earth Day and how our energy usage affects the worldwide community.

ECUMENICAL CONCERT - Sacred Music presented by the choirs of many of our local Christian Churches (including St. Brendan 10:00 choir) at Bothell United Methodist Church (near Bothell High School) at 6:30 pm, Sunday April 27. Come, enjoy prayerful music and meet our brothers and sisters in Christ at the reception following.

MAY CROWNING - The Legion of Mary invites you to the Rosary, procession, crowning of the statue of our Lady, and reception, after the 8:30 am Mass on Saturday, May 10.

SPECIAL COMING LITURGIES - The Easter Season is a time to celebrate all the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptisms of children: April 26 at (5:00pm) and May 4 (8,10&12); Confirmation: May 3 (5:00pm).

STATIONS OF THE CROSS (after Soup Supper) Stations on March 14 will be the Living Stations presented by St. Stephen Martyr Youth Group from Renton. They will begin at 7:30 pm.

ADULT CONFIRMATION - Have you been away from the Church for a while? Did you receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, but not Confirmation? Do you need to be confirmed as part of your marriage preparation classes? Our Adult Confir mation program begins Sunday, March 30th, at 9:00 am in Brendan House, and will cover: The Creed, Scripture, Namng our Experience of God, Catholic morality and an Open forum.

PARISH COUNCILS & COMISSIONS - Nominations for Parish Council and Commissions closing March 16! Our parish community is now accepting nominations for nine parish consultative bodies: the Pastoral and Finance Councils, and the Faith Formation, Community Development, Facilities, Peace & Justice, School, Stewardship and Worship & Spiritual Life Commissions. As a parish, we are committed to insuring that our leadership reflects our community as a whole. For that reason, members of our councils and commissions are not “elected”, but rather are chosen through a process of community discernment. We believe that the Holy Spirit acively calls people to serve on these bodies, and helps us as a community to determine who will most effectively provide the type of leadership needed. Every St. Brendan parishioner is asked to prayerfully consider who might serve on the councils and commissions. Parishioners may nominate themselves or other qualified persons. Forms are available after Mass at the Parish Council information table in the Narthex.

Lenten Education Series on the Mass - "Vessels, Vestments, & Accoutrements" Thursday, Feb. 14th—7:00 pm in the Narthex.

Have you always wondered why Fr. Jim wears different colored vestments at different times? Or why his chalice is different from the chalices used by the community. Or maybe you are wondering what that little white cloth on the altar is for? Come to this first class of our Lenten Series on the Mass and be prepared to learn all this and more. Class starts at 7:00 pm in the Narthex.

Dead Theologians Society - Our next meeting is Friday, February 15 from 7:30—9:30 pm in Lower Brendan House. Fr. Jim will be giving a talk on St. Francis de Sales and leading us in a few praise and worship songs. Called & Gifted Part 2 - The following group discernment process for charisms is being offered at St. Brendan School Library. Time: 7:00—9:30 Dates: MONDAYS February 11, 25 & March 3.

Charisms are ways God regularly uses us as channels of His loving provision for others and to buildup and further the work of the Church. At rock bottom, discernment is the practice of distinguishing the voice of God from among the many competing urgings that vie for our attention. All who have participated in a Called & Gifted workshop are invited to participate. Spanish translation will be available. Questions, call Patt Reade at the Parish Office.

St. Brendan School Auction - St. Brendan School Auction will be held on Saturday, March 1, at the Bellevue Hyatt. If you would like to attend, please call Michelle Russell at 425-844-2658. Ash Wednesday Schedule (Feb 6) -

Lenten Fasting (Official Norms) -For this penitential season, the Church draws on the wisdom of the Scriptures and tradition in suggesting a time of intense prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Catholics in the United States are obliged to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during the season of Lent. Catholics are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Self-imposed observance of fasting on all weekdays of Lent is strongly recommended, as is abstinence from meat on all Fridays of the year. Ash Wednesday is February 6. Good Friday is March 21.

Fasting - On a day of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal the other full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are permitted.

Abstinence - On days of abstinence eating of meat is not allowed. The obligation of fasting binds Catholics who are 18 - 59 years old. The obligation of abstinence
applies to those 14 years and older. The law does not oblige when health or ability to work would be seriously affected.

PALMS TO ASHES - Ash Wednesday (Feb. 6) is less than a month away. Our tradition is to burn the palms from the previous Palm Sunday to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday. Please bring your palms and leave them in baskets near the entrance before January 28.

FR. ROGER - With our added weekend Masses, Fr. Roger O'Brien has been assisting us by presiding at two Masses on three weekends each month, rotating between different Masses. Due to his retired status, Fr. Roger will be available only for liturgies, not for regular parish counseling, marriages, or other forms of pastoral care. We are grateful for his assistance.

LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY ON PAULINE LETTERS - St. Brendan’s Little Rock Scripture Study group will resume on February 5th, at 7:00 pm in the Narthex, with St. Paul’s letters to
the Galatians and Romans. Registration forms are available at the Pastoral Council table. For more information, contact John Hurley at 425.488.1373, or Mary and Mark Boyce at 425.415.2120.

CONFIRMATION AND RETURNING CATHOLICS - Have you been away from the Church for a while? Did you receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, but not Confirmation? Help Decorate the Church for Christmas - After the 12:00 pm Mass on Sunday, Dec 23. Please sign up at the Pastoral Council Information Table so we know we can count on you! Call Dennis at the office for information or if you could help in other ways.

Prayer Group - Everyone is welcome to join us in the school music room on the 2nd Wednesdays of the month at 7:00 pm, for fellowship and prayer meetings. We will be offering a series of teachings that will help us all go deeper into growing in the Life in the Spirit. Next meeting is January 9th- ”More Love through Prayer” and Feb. 13-”More Love through Purification”.

Dead Theologians Society - DTS is a Catholic youth group for high school aged teens (grades 9-12) who wish to dilve more deeply into our Catholic faith through prayer and discussion by examining the lives of the saints. Our next meeting is Friday, December 21, from 7:30—9:30 pm, in the chapel at St. Brendan Church. Fr. Jim will be joining us for a talk on the Blessed Mother and various devotions of our Church. Immaculate Conception - A Holy Day of Obligation - Mass will be on Friday, December 7 at 7 pm, and Saturday, Dec 8 at 8:30 am. The 5pm Mass on Saturday, Dec. 8th will be a Vigil Mass for the Second Sunday of Advent.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament - First Friday Adoration will begin on Friday, December 7, following the 8:30 am Mass. Adoration will close on Saturday, December 8 with Benediction in the chapel, before the 8:30 am Mass. During the 7:00 pm Mass Friday, there will be a pause in adoration.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe - Dec 12. 5am Mananitas and song, 9am school Mass, 7pm Mass and reception.

The Giving Tree - The Giving Tree is an annual parish outreach project which works with local organizations to provide gifts for children, teens, adults and seniors who would otherwise not have gifts at Christmas. Take one ore more ornaments from the trees in the Narthex, purchase the requested items, and return your purchase unwrapped with the ornament attached by 2pm Sunday, December 16th. Volunteers are also needed on Sunday, December 16th from 2-5pm to help sort and deliver the gifts. To help, please call Desiree Engel at 425-483-2516 or email desiree-engel@comcast.net.
