For that reason, members of our councils and commissions are not “elected”, but rather are chosen through a process of community discernment. Catholics in the United States are obliged to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during the season of Lent. Catholics are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Self-imposed observance of fasting on all weekdays of Lent is strongly recommended, as is abstinence from meat on all Fridays of the year. Ash Wednesday is February 6. Good Friday is March 21.

Fasting - On a day of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal the other full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are permitted.

Abstinence - On days of abstinence eating of meat is not allowed. The obligation of fasting binds Catholics who are 18 - 59 years old. The obligation of abstinence
applies to those 14 years and older. The law does not oblige when health or ability to work would be seriously affected.

Lenten Adult Faith Series - Mark your calendars for 7:00 pm on Thursday nights during Lent, starting with February 14th, and continuing for five Thursdays. Our tradition is to burn the palms from the previous Palm Sunday to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday. Please bring your palms and leave them in baskets near the entrance before January 28.
FR. ROGER - With our added weekend Masses, Fr. Roger O'Brien has been assisting us by presiding at two Masses on three weekends each month, rotating between different Masses. Due to his retired status, Fr. Roger will be available only for liturgies, not for regular parish counseling, marriages, or other forms of pastoral care. We are grateful for his assistance.
LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY ON PAULINE LETTERS - St. Brendan’s Little Rock Scripture Study group will resume on February 5th, at 7:00 pm in the Narthex, with St. Paul’s letters to
the Galatians and Romans. Registration forms are available at the Pastoral Council table. For more information, contact John Hurley at 425.488.1373, or Mary and Mark Boyce at 425.415.2120.
CONFIRMATION AND RETURNING CATHOLICS - Have you been away from the Church for a while? Did you receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, but not Confirmation? Do you need to be confirmed as part of your marriage preparation classes? Our Adult Confirmation program includes the Adult Faith Education Thursday night classes noted below, and five additional classes which are required for the Confirmation Candidates. These additional classes begin Sunday, March 30th, at 9:00 am, and will cover:

The Creed: What we believe and why we believe it--Why the foundational doctrines of our faith are important to us today

Scripture: encountering Jesus in the Word of God--Our Catholic understanding of the Bible and its interpretation.

Naming our Experience of God--How do we experience the risen Christ?

Catholic morality: living as children of God--Those things about the Catholic Church you’ve always wanted to ask.

Open forum: “What about…?”--The role of symbols, sacraments and grace in Catholic life.

To register, or for further information, call Linda Haptonstall at 425.483.9400, or email your name and telephone number to lindah@saintbrendan.org

More information about parish activities can be found in this week's bulletin...

This week at St. Brendan - Dec 31, 2007

Mary, Mother of God - January 1st, a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass times are

Dec 31st: 5:00 pm.

January 1st: 10:00 am.

March for Life - January 22, 2008 at Noon at the Capitol in Olympia. A bus will leave from St. Brendan to Olympia at 9:30 am and returns at 3 pm. Dress warm, bring a sack lunch and umbrella.

More information about parish activities can be found in the bulletin...

Merry Christmas

Christmas Mass Schedule

Monday Dec. 24 Christmas Eve Masses

5:00pm (children’s choir)
8:00 pm (5:00 pm Choir)

Tuesday Dec. 25

Midnight Mass at 12:00M (10:00 Choir)
Mass at 9:30 am (bilingual –8:00 & 12:00 choirs)

Directions to St. Brendan

This week at St. Brendan's - Dec 20, 2007

Christmas Mass Schedule

Monday Dec. 24 Christmas Eve Masses

5:00pm (children’s choir)

8:00 pm (5:00 pm Choir)

Tuesday Dec. 25

Midnight Mass at 12:00M (10:00 Choir)

Mass at 9:30 am (bilingual –8:00 & 12:00 choirs)

Help Decorate the Church for Christmas - After the 12:00 pm Mass on Sunday, Dec 23.
