Adult Faith Formation

NEW WEB SITE OF INTEREST:  http://www.faithfulcitizenship.org/.  This is the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops web site, and has great information to help guide you in making decisions about issues from a Catholic centered perspective.

Numerous opportunities are available in the parish throughout the year for adult faith formation.  Current programs include:

  • Scripture Study – Starting in the fall, the Tuesday night Scripture Study group will explore "Living in the Power of the Holy Spirit: A Catholic Bible Study.  "Who is the Holy Spirit? What is his role in our salvation? How do we cooperate with him to experience the fullness of his presence? How do we receive his fruits and exercise his gifts? These are a few of the questions explored in this nine-week Bible study, which is designed to help Catholics grow in their appreciation of the Holy Spirit and his power to transform their lives in Christ. The many relevant Scripture passages, combined with wisdom from the saints, the Catechism, and church tradition, make this a truly inspired Bible study.
The Emmaus Journey Bible Study series invites small faith-sharing groups to spend seven to ten weeks exploring the Scriptures and allowing God's word to more deeply penetrate their hearts. Developed and tested in Catholic parishes, these studies encourage community building while helping people to grow in their walk with Christ."
The study is appropriate for beginners as well as long-time students of the Bible.  Look for sign up information in the bulletin starting in August.
  • JustFaith - Empowering people of faith to develop a passion and thirst for justice.  Living our faith with today’s challenges takes reflection, study, prayer and community.  All of these are offered in the JustFaith program, an intensive 30-week program that helps to answer these questions through reflection, study, prayer and community.  Information for registering is in our weekly bulletin now.
  • Catechetical Certification Program - This program will explore the Catholic interpretation of scripture, key theological concepts, and the history of the church using the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Church Documents.  This program is for those parishioners who volunteer to teach in our various faith formation programs here at St. Brendan, and who are seeking certification.
  • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – (RCIA) is the church’s way of bringing new members into our faith community.  If you are interested in the Catholic Faith, or is someone who was baptized Catholic but has not received any of the other Sacraments, you are invited to join us every Monday night from 7pm to 8:30pm in the Brendan House Dining Room. We meet year round and you are invited to join at any time.
